Halloween

Halloween i think is the best time of year. The only reason i think that is because you get to dress up in cool or scary costumes. You go house to house and you say "Trick or Treat" and you either get candy or they can scare you.

Fourwheeler Riding

There are many different types of fourwheelers but some are good for speed and others are good for hauling things. Which is more fun? The ones for speed can mostly be used for roads and trails. The ones for hauling things are mostly for offroading. Don't get me wrong speed can go offroading and power can go on roads.

Cars

What I believe is that cars are used for racing and sound systems, trucks are used for work and power and my motto is that if the truck is smaller than you then it is not a real truck, vans are used as transport cars used to carry people around. Some people will most likely not agree with me but it is just what I believe. Cars have bass systems and tuner mods and sometimes nitrous. Trucks are used for fun and work most trucks have power and can go offroading and haul a lot of weight. Vans to me are used to just carry people around.

Duck Hunting

I would have to say duck hunting would have to be the best type of hunting i have tried so far. You wake up at around 5 get dressed and make sure that you have everything that you need. You also need a lot of bullets. When you get out to where you go hunting you put everything on the boat (if you are going out on some water that you cant walk through) and go out to the blind.

Right when the sun starts coming up is when the ducks start flying right above you. The first ones are always the fastest I don't know why but they always are. After that you have the Mallards, Shoveler, Teal, and Mud-chickens. You should have at the least one person calling them in. When they get close enough to shoot your blood really starts pumping. Its like when you see that big buck just get closer and closer but it happens a lot more in duck hunting. After the ducks stop flying for about an hour then you can stop if you want. You go get something to eat and maybe some sleep if you want. If you really want to you can also go out at around sunset.

History of Halloween

Halloween comes from the time of the Celtics with the festival of Samhain (sow-in). 2,000 years ago what is now called Ireland, United Kingdom, and northern France on November 1 was the end of summer and harvest and the beginning of winter which was often associated with human death. Celts believed that on the night before the boundary between the living and the dead disappeared. On October 31, they celebrated Samhain when it is believed that the dead return to earth. The dead would help Druids (Celtic priest) tell the future and also destroy crops and cause trouble.

On this night the Druids would build huge sacred bonfires where everyone would come to burn crops and animals to satisfy the Celtic deities. During this celebration the Celts wore costumes made mostly of animal heads and skins. After the celebration was over they re lite their hearths with the fire from the sacred bonfire to help protect their homes during the cold, harsh winter.

By A.D. 43 the Romans had conquered most of the Celtic land. Two celebrations from the Romans were combined with the festival of Samhain. The first was Feralia, A day in October that the Romans commemorated the passing of the dead. The second was a day to to honor Pomona (Roman goddess of fruit and trees). The symbol of the goddess is an apple. this day is the origin of "bobbing for apples".

By the 800s, Christianity was being spread through Celtic lands. Pope Boniface IV designated November 1 as All Saints' Day. The night of Samhain was now being called All-hallows Eve, And eventually Halloween. In A.D. 1000, the church would make November 2 All Souls' Day, a day to honor the dead. It was celebrated like Samhain, with bonfires, parades, and dressing up in costumes. Together the three celebrations were called Hallowmas.

Standarized Testing

Standerized Testing is it good or is it bad for our school and childern today? My view on standerized test is that they are good for determining the progress of a single child or a single district. But they are used to determine how one school compairs to another. For example a smaller school would be compaired to a school three times in size. The government would look at this and determine a goal for both schools even though one school is three times bigger.

Standerized test have also been used to track students, allocate school funds, and even determine a teachers pay. But standerized test can adequatly determine a students strengths and weaknessesand his/her aptitude for certain abilities. The score a student gets on his/her SAT is said to be a good indicator of their performance in the first year of college. The IQ test indicates how well he/she can solve certain problems. The many different test are helpful to teachers in determining how students are performing compared to a similar group of students.

Teachers may use standerized test scores to determine the learning abilities of their students as well as test what their students have mastered in a certain subject. The test provide a measure of student achievement. But this test is only one measure of achievement. Test can be used to determine course placement or retention, but not as a sole determinant. Standerized test have been critisized because of their limitations and their influence. Standerized test should be used by teachers to determine a students strengths and weaknesses in comparision to other students of the same grade level. The teachers then can provide assistants to those who are struggling and give enrichment opportunities for those who are excelling.
